Pakistan’s Remittances Surge 12.7% to $3.6b in September, Reach $10.9b in First Quarter

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s workers’ remittances recorded a significant increase in September 2026, reaching $3.6 billion, up 12.7 per cent year-on-year, while inflows during the first quarter of the current fiscal year rose 14 per cent to $10.9 billion, reflecting continued financial support from overseas Pakistanis and providing a boost to the country’s external sector.

According to Finance Minister’s Adviser Khurram Shehzad, the latest figures highlight the growing contribution of overseas Pakistanis to the national economy and the importance of remittances in supporting foreign exchange inflows and economic stability.

Saudi Arabia remained the largest source of remittances in September, contributing $899 million, followed by the United Arab Emirates with $749 million and the United Kingdom with $515 million.

The strong inflows during the first three months of the current fiscal year underscore the continued importance of overseas Pakistanis in strengthening the country’s balance of payments and supporting household incomes across Pakistan.

The government views the rise in remittances as an encouraging development for the economy, while continued engagement with overseas Pakistanis and efforts to promote formal remittance channels remain important for sustaining this momentum.

Khurram Shehzad attributed the positive economic outlook to effective diplomacy, sustained economic reforms and growing confidence in the country’s economic direction. He said the record inflows reflected overseas Pakistanis’ confidence in the government and their continued commitment to supporting the national economy.

Remittances are a vital source of foreign exchange for Pakistan, helping meet external financing needs, supporting domestic consumption and providing financial assistance to millions of families. Sustaining growth in these inflows will remain important for strengthening economic resilience and maintaining stability in the months ahead.
